Nine breeders in Canada and the USA purchased the exclusive semen rights to Painter. Semen cannot be transferred and can only be used in the herd of the purchaser of semen rights. In addition to being a member of this group, we now own the walking rights to Painter. We liked the offspring so much that we decided we wanted to increase the number of offspring in our herd more than would be practical using only AI breeding.
It is interesting to compare the epd figures produced by the American Simmental Association and the Canadian Simmental Association set out above. There is obviously a great difference between the two and, most notably the ASA epd number for Rib Eye is 0.08 while the CSA epd number is 0.71. It is unknown whether the contrast is the result of a difference in the equation used by the associations to compute the epd figure or whether the actual results in Canada and the USA are that different.
