ABOUT YANKEE CREEK RANCH

Julene and Murphy Clark have been operating Yankee Creek Ranch since 1978.

We started breeding Simmental cattle in 1978. In the mid 80’s we changed to the Fleckvieh breed. The full Fleckvieh fullblood breeding herd totals more than 300 females.

Yankee Creek Ranch is located in a small valley in Southwestern Oregon, USA on the edge of the Rogue River Valley.

We are near Medford and Ashland, Oregon. Click here for the Ashland Chamber of Commerce Web Page. Click here for the Medford Oregon Web. Click here for the Medford Visitors and Conventions Bureau. The ranch is comprised of approximately 2,500 acres. 800 plus acres are irrigated of which 350 acres produces grass and alfalfa hay.

We have four separate seasons, none of which are extreme. We usually have 20 nights of frost. It rarely snows but when it does, it is mostly gone in a day. We get about 22 inches of rain between November and March. It is very dry and warm in the summer. The only time it rains in the summer is when there is hay on the ground. There is insufficient rain between March and October to grow crops without irrigation.

The Ranch Headquarters

The herd grazes in non irrigated, timbered hills in the spring, on irrigated pastures in the summer and fall and is fed grass hay during the winter months. We usually start feeding hay the first of November and turn out on grass by the middle of March. The calves grow on their mothers and grass, without access to creep feed or other supplements, before and after weaning. We provide free choice minerals to make up for the selenium and copper deficiencies in our area.
